Good Samaritan

The story of the Good Samaritan – Gospel of Luke, 10: 25-37.

Author: Evangelist Daniel Sushanth

The Parable of the Good Samaritan teaches compassion and kindness regardless of background or circumstances. This lesson was exemplified in my friend’s vacation experience.

My friend, driven by a sense of urgency and compassion, quickly responded to the woman’s cry for help amidst the indifference of others at the hotel. Despite their anticipation for breakfast, my friend selflessly prioritized assisting the distressed woman. Approaching her, the woman shared the harrowing situation she found herself in while on a family road trip – her car had become trapped in a treacherous stream of water while crossing a valley.

My friend had to overcome a physical challenge of climbing up the hill to reach the locals. Initially, one of the locals refused to help. However, my friend persevered and managed to find a garbage picker who was willing to help. However, this assistance came with a condition – my friend had to pay the
garbage picker for his help.

After successfully pulling the car out of the water, the family expressed their gratitude and proposed paying the amount online by requesting my friend’s bank details. However, my friend politely declined their offer.

My friend showed remarkable indifference to his own discomfort, disregarding the blistering sun and enduring the inconvenience of soaked shoes and half-pants. The incident that occurred resulted in a delay, forcing him to wait patiently for a whole hour before finally being able to enjoy his long-awaited
breakfast.

It is crucial to cultivate a sense of compassion and empathy towards others. The story of the Good Samaritan emphasizes the significance of selflessly assisting those in need, irrespective of any personal gain. A reminder that we should be ready to extend a helping hand whenever possible, without expecting reciprocation or reward. Such acts of kindness not only make a positive impact
on the lives of others but also enrich our own humanity and foster a more compassionate society.

By practicing the virtues of the Good Samaritan, we can show care for others, crossing barriers and aiding those in need. Like Jesus, we should embody kindness, understanding, and selflessness, positively impacting lives and fostering empathy in society.

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, open our hearts to others’ needs. Like the Good Samaritan, make us compassionate and kind. Grant us courage to act, wisdom to help, and bless those who aid others. May we selflessly extend a hand, guided by love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
