Deuteronomy – (32:35)
Author : Evangelist Daniel Sushanth.
Believers should entrust vengeance to God and be wary of the influence of movies. Often, movies depict revenge in a positive manner, but they caution against the real-life consequences of violence, death, and destruction. We should not idolize movie characters and imitate their actions.
The story of Cain and Abel from the book of Genesis in the Bible serves as a cautionary tale, showcasing the backlash of seeking revenge. Cain’s envy and rage, resulting from God’s consideration of Abel’s offering over his own, drove him to refuse God’s warning and take the life of his blameless brother, Abel.
In the effect of killing his brother Abel, Cain faced God’s curse which marked him as a fugitive and a wanderer. If Cain had been able to control his anger and follow God’s guidance, he could have avoided a life of turmoil. However, his inability to manage his temper resulted in the loss of his position and enduring consequences.
In everyday life, instances of revenge are frequently observed, often resulting from situations such as reckless driving in response to being overtaken or neighbours reacting angrily to garbage being dumped in front of their house. Regrettably, these circumstances can occasionally escalate to tragic consequences, including loss of life.
An alternate response to seeking revenge involves seeking justice, understanding, and personal growth through peaceful means, forgiveness, reconciliation, and individual healing. Trusting in God’s justice and leaving vengeance to Him leads to peace, reconciliation, and personal development.
Believers seeking vengeance should trust in God’s justice and timing. Emotions should not control us; justice will be served according to God’s plan. Vengeance belongs to God (Deut. 32:35). Trust in His justice, forgive, and leave room for His wrath.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, help me resist revenge and trust Your justice. Teach me forgiveness, turning the other cheek. Grant strength to resist revenge, focus on forgiveness and love. Thank You for being a just God. In Jesus name – Amen
