John – ( 6:14) – Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

My Mom is a remarkable woman known for her generosity, love, and culinary skills. Her cooking was an expression of her love, and she never allowed anyone to leave her home without being well-fed. In those days, kitchen appliances like mixers were not readily available, so my mom would grind spices on a stone. She would work tirelessly, even on a kerosene stove.
A kerosene stove, for those who may not be familiar, is a type of stove that uses kerosene fuel as a heat source for cooking. It was a common household cooking appliance in many parts of the world, including India, before the widespread availability of modern gas or electric stoves.
Despite the challenges and limitations posed by the lack of modern kitchen technology, my mom never once complained about cooking for my cousins and friends. In fact, it seemed as if she had an endless well of strength and willingness to serve. Her dedication and perseverance in preparing meals for others were truly remarkable, illustrating her selfless nature and unwavering commitment to taking care of those around her. Her culinary skills and the love she poured into her cooking brought joy and comfort to everyone fortunate enough to taste her delicious creations.
My mom would spend hours in the kitchen, diligently preparing a feast for our dad’s visiting cousins and their large entourage. She would carefully select fresh chicken, herbs, and spices from the market, sometimes relying on the generosity of our friendly neighbors to obtain all the necessary ingredients.
In those days, there were no convenient grocery delivery apps like Swiggy or Bigbasket to provide immediate assistance. Nevertheless, my mom embraced the task of cooking with unwavering determination, treating it as a culinary challenge. Despite the size of the gathering, she firmly believed that our cousins, as honoured guests, should not concern themselves and instead enjoy the food,
In the kitchen, Mom multitasked, grinding spices, cleaning chicken, and making fried rice. She also made custard, a favorite dessert. The aroma of spices increased our appetites. Even she set the table and served and we enjoyed every bite.
While we enjoyed the meal, my mom radiated happiness and observed us. My cousins were impressed by her cooking and took the recipes home. She packed parcels of food for those who couldn’t attend, using stainless steel tiffin carriers. Mom always prioritized others and would eat last, leaving plenty of delicious leftovers. I admired her love, compassion, and boundless generosity.
When I think about my mom’s cooking and her selfless service, it brings to mind Jesus feeding thousands of people. Like Jesus, my mom’s meals were not just tasty but filled with love and care. Her cooking exemplified compassion and the happiness of giving.
According to the Bible, Jesus fed large crowds on two separate occasions. Jesus’ compassion and miraculous ability to provide for the physical needs of the people.
Feeding of the 5,000: In all four Gospels (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, and John 6:1-15), Jesus multiplied five loaves of bread and two fish to feed 5,000 men, besides women and children. Everyone ate and was satisfied, and twelve baskets of leftovers were collected.
Feeding of the 4,000: As mentioned in Matthew 15:32-39 and Mark 8:1-10, Jesus multiplied seven loaves of bread and a few small fish to feed a crowd of 4,000 men, in addition to women and children. After everyone had eaten and was satisfied, seven baskets of leftovers were gathered.
Trust in God’s compassion and love. When you face uncertainty or struggle, have faith and turn to Him. Pour out your needs, and He will provide, using chosen vessels or miraculous means. Rest assured, God’s steadfast love will surpass your expectations and meet your needs.
