Trusting God Over Material Possessions
Author Evangelist Sushanth Daniel
In a world brimming with uncertainty, we seek safety and security. This pursuit often leads us down paths paved with material possessions. We accumulate wealth. We build bigger houses. We invest in various insurance policies. All of this is done in an attempt to shield ourselves from life’s unpredictable storms. But what happens when these material shields prove insufficient? Where do we turn when the markets crash, our health fails, or our relationships crumble?
The answer lies in the unwavering promise of God’s protection. Psalm 121:7-8 assures us, “The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life.” The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. This isn’t merely a comforting verse; it’s a lifeline of hope that anchors us in the midst of life’s tempests.

The Bible is replete with accounts of God’s people experiencing His supernatural protection. These aren’t just stories from a bygone era. They are powerful reminders of God’s unwavering commitment to those who trust in Him. Consider these examples:

While God’s protection is a gift, we also have a role to play in positioning ourselves to receive it. Here are some practical steps we can take:
- Thankfulness (1 Thessalonians 5:18): “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Develop an attitude of gratitude, recognizing God’s blessings in your life, even amidst challenges.
It’s crucial to understand that God’s protection doesn’t guarantee a life free from trials. Jesus Himself said, “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). However, God’s presence is with us through every trial. He doesn’t promise to remove us from the storm. He does promise to be our anchor within it. He is our refuge and our strength.

Ultimately, finding safety and security in God’s protection requires a conscious decision to trust Him above all else. It means relinquishing our grip on material possessions and placing our faith in the One who holds all things together. As we do, we’ll discover a peace that surpasses understanding and a security that no earthly treasure can provide.
